OGA – TADE’: Snowshoe route around Bormio

  • Season: December to March
  • Length: 4 kilometers
  • Duration: 1 to 2 hours
  • Max/Min altitude: 1980 m – 1702 m
A very short, straightforward path leads to the Tade clearing, located at a beautiful panoramic spot among spruce and larch trees and cembra peat bogs. From this viewpoint, you can see the Bormio basin, separated from the Dolomite ridge by Cima di Reit, extending to the old Valfurva basins below the mighty Grande Zebrù. This trail is suitable for beginners.

Santa Caterina – Sell – Tov – Santa Caterina: Snowshoe route near Bormio

  • Season: December – April
  • Length: ~3 kilometers
  • Duration: 1–2 hours
  • Max/Min altitude: 1880 m – 1738 m
From the main square (Piazza Magliavacca), head towards Bormio; after 100 m turn left (look for the Cappellette walk sign). The trail gently winds to a small votive chapel on a curve. A short walk leads to the Sold and Tov huts (1,876 m), where you can see an ancient hand-carved crucifix. From here you can view old mountain huts, the Pizzo Tresero summit, and the opposite slope with ski runs including the famous “Deborah Compagnoni.” The path then continues to the right, descending gently through the woods to the Santa Caterina square. Watch for ice on some sections during the descent.

VAL VIOLA: Snowshoe route near Bormio

  • Val Viola, Baite Caricc and Arnoga
  • Season: December to April
  • Length: 11 km – Duration: 2 to 3 hours
  • Max/Min altitude: 2038 m – 1864 m
A gentle trail leads to the Caricc alpine clearing, situated in an incredible spot beneath the Dosdè-Viola group peaks and their glaciers. The central section offers two alternative routes. The alpine hut, from which you can reach the valley’s dramatic gorge, is usually open throughout winter. Thanks to proper markings, the slopes can even be navigated at night.
