CHRISTMAS WITH YOURS… EASTER WITH US IN BORMIO!
Easter in Bormio is spectacular thanks to the tradition of the “Pasquali”!
The Pasquali are portable platforms, or rather real works of carpentry and engineering with a religious meaning that are paraded through the historic centre of Bormio on Easter Day.Work on these platforms begins many months before Easter. The members of each group divide the tasks: men handle the wooden structure and mechanics, while women clean moss and flowers. The platforms are built only with humble materials such as wood, pinecones, bark, moss and heather flowers, and one thing is crucial… they must keep the secret! There is a contest under way: the jury ranks them based on various factors, from religious meaning to craftsmanship and artistry, without forgetting the cultural and traditional aspect, the heart of the event.
At last it’s Easter! All the locals wear traditional dress; the boys prepare the rolled cloak to carry on their shoulders because the Pasquali, believe me, are heavy! Women and children accompany the parade with carts, baskets, old prams and animals. A truly magical day you cannot miss.
